Our premium 86-proof, extra-aged bourbon ages years longer in white oak barrels than original Jim Beam®. It’s those extra years of aging that give Jim Beam Black® its full-bodied flavor with smooth caramel and warm oak notes.

Bottled-in-bond bourbon (also known as bonded bourbon) was essentially the only type available until the 1950s. Jim Beam Bonded (Number 12 Formula) is aged and bottled in accordance with the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, which requires 100-proof bourbon (50 percent ABV) to be aged for a minimum of four years.

The first issue of Early Times was published in 1860 in Early Times Station, Kentucky. Kentucky water is ideal for creating whisky because it is naturally filtered by limestone springs, resulting in a mineral-rich product that adds flavour and improves fermentation. When Prohibition occurred in 1920, Early Times was classed as a "medicinal whisky," allowing it to be exempt from the legislation. Early Times was purchased by the Brown-Forman Company in 1923, and during the next 30 years, it became the best-selling whisky in the country. Its smoothness is now enjoyed in more than 40 nations.
